Strengthening Families Program
The Strengthening Families Program (SFP) is a program for the families in the community that have youth ages 12-17 that may be struggling with substance abuse, parent/teen conflict, chronic truancy, delinquency, aggression towards other and/or self harm. The program consists of interactive skills building in the areas of relationship building, parenting, communication, problem solving, anger management, and other areas of family functioning.
Families will be selected to take part in the program, which runs for 14 consecutive weeks on Wednesday nights at the Consolidated Credit Union Youth Engagement Center. Each Wednesday night starts with a meal provided by the SFP staff for the families, followed by parents session in one classroom and teens session in another. After parents and teens complete their sessions that evening they go into family session where parents and teens work together on the skills they will have learned that evening.
-Every Wednesday night for 14 weeks
-Supper from 5-6
-Parent session 6-7
-Teen session 6-7
-Family session 7-8
For families who have children under the age of 12, the kids can join their families for supper, then once supper is over they will be taken over to the Boys and Girls Club for structured activities under the supervision of our child care workers.
The Strengthening Families Program offers rides to and from the Consolidated Credit Union Youth Engagement Center for families in the program on Wednesday night.
